Sarker Protick

Co-Curator, Chobi Mela

Bangladesh

Sarker Protick is a Bangladeshi artist working between photography and moving image, navigating two intertwined trajectories—one abstract and sensorial, the other rooted in the socio-political landscapes of Bangladesh and Bengal. His long-term projects trace infrastructures such as railroads, waterways, and industrial corridors as sites where imperial histories surface and persist. Distilled to minimal form, his works evoke suspended horizons where time unfolds non-linearly—slowing, looping, and converging.

A graduate and long-time faculty member of Pathshala, Protick has taught there for over a decade and serves as co-curator of Chobi Mela. In 2024, he also co-curated the 8th edition of Colomboscope in Sri Lanka. His practice spans image-making, teaching, and curation.

Protick’s work has received wide recognition, including the After Nature Prize (C/O Berlin & Crespo Foundation), Joop Swart Masterclass, Light Work Residency, Magnum Foundation Fund, Foam Talent Amsterdam, and a World Press Photo Award. His works are held in collections at Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (Australia), Ishara Art Foundation (UAE), Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (India), and Jameel Arts Centre (UAE). He is represented by Shrine Empire, New Delhi.

His recent exhibitions include the 11th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (Brisbane, 2024–25), solo shows at C/O Berlin (2024) and Bristol Photo (2024), and group presentations at Jameel Arts Centre (Jeddah, 2023–24), Dhaka Art Summit (2023), Serendipity Arts Festival (Goa, 2023), Yokohama Triennial (2020), Kunst Haus Wien (2020), and Paris Photo (2017), among many others.
