Kareen Adam
Kareen Adam is a Maldivian–Australian visual artist based between the Maldives and Melbourne (Naarm). Working across printmaking, drawing, digital media, and soft sculpture, her practice explores cultural identity, displacement, and the tensions between belonging and otherness. Her work often critiques the tourist gaze and challenges colonial narratives that shape island imagery.
Currently a PhD candidate in Visual Arts at Monash University’s Wominjeka Djeembana Lab, Kareen previously earned a Master of Creative Industries at Melbourne Polytechnic. She has exhibited and curated widely across the Asia–Pacific, including in the Maldives, Melbourne, Brisbane, and Hong Kong. Alongside her art practice, she develops hand-printed designs under the label Kudaingili, combining craft traditions with contemporary explorations of memory and place.
